Getting oriented

Words to the wise

  • Tickets to all events are on sale now
  • Buy early! Many events have sold out; see Search All Events and click the drop-down box to see Available Events Only.
  • To buy in person, go to the Playhouse Theatre Company production office at 160 West 1st Ave. and Columbia St., Vancouver (Note this is NOT the downtown theatre.)
  • Scroll down to read Notes, Trade Days and More Small Print

New for 2007

  • Ticket sales have been streamlined this year. In a nutshell, Ticketmaster sells tickets to the International Festival Tasting and Up Your Glass! only; the Playhouse Theatre Company sells everything, including the tasting room.
  • If you want International Festival Tasting tickets only, the fastest way is via Ticketmaster online or call 604-280-3311.
  • If you want special events only, or trade events only, or a combination of, say, dinners, seminars and tasting room, call Playhouse Audience Services at 604-873-3311.

In person at the festival

In the unlikely event that tickets are still available, you may buy them when the Ticketmaster kiosk is open at the Vancouver Convention & Exhibition Centre, 999 Canada Place. This kiosk operates only on March 29, 30 and 31 (the dates of the International Festival Tastings). Avoid disappointment and buy in advance. Tickets to special events such as winery dinners and luncheons are not sold at the door or by the host venue. They must be purchased in advance at 604-873-3311 or at the kiosk (if available).

Notes:

  • With the exception of the Up Your Glass! events, all ticket prices include wine, food (if it is a food event), gratuities and GST, but are exclusive of a $3.75 service charge, with the exception of Packs and Passes, which are all-inclusive. Per order handling charges may apply. GST R119251403.
  • A limited number of festival packages and passes are available. Be sure to order early.
  • The festival program is subject to change without notice.
  • The Playhouse Theatre Company does not accept liability for tickets lost in the mail or misplaced after they are issued. No refunds, exchanges, or replacement tickets will be issued.
  • All events begin promptly. To avoid disappointment and in consideration of others please arrive on time. Seating for latecomers at formal sit-down tastings is not guaranteed and money will not be refunded.
  • Please taste responsibly.

Trade Days:

  • Trade Days events are restricted to those who work in the wine or wine-and-food industry. Individuals purchasing tickets for these events will be required to identify themselves.
  • All attendees at the Trade Tastings must wear a nametag with their name, role and place of business.
  • All trade session participants require a badge and a ticket for access to the Tasting Room.

More Small Print:

  • We do our best to make everything perfect, but event details are subject to change without notice. And without refund.
  • Nothing shouts “wine rookie” louder than fragrance. Refrain from stinky stuff like perfume, cologne, aftershave and hairspray. The noses, palates and wines in the room will thank you.
  • Dress code: avoid fleece. Just kidding about the fleece – but we suggest smart business attire, and enthusiastically recommend black. (Red wine never looks good on white.) To go the distance in the tasting room, wear really comfortable shoes.
  • Please taste responsibly. We serve tasting pours. Your job is to not swallow every ounce that’s poured. Do master the fine art of spitting and/or dumping. No, not on the floor – in the buckets provided at each station. Even if you don’t spit, feel free to sip and savour and then pour out the rest of your glass. There’s plenty of wine. Trust us.
  • Make a plan, Stan. Stay overnight at one of our partner hotels. Take a taxi. Take transit (BC Liquor Stores offers you a free ticket). Assign a designated spitter. Walk. Just don’t drink and drive.
  • You must be at least 19 years old and might have to prove it.

Bottles of Red Wine

Everybody agrees it is the best consumer wine show on the continent ... for nearly three decades, the festival has energized our region's food and wine culture.
