EVENTS OVERVIEW
The 2007 Vancouver Playhouse International Wine Festival serves up a record 1,550 wines from 180 wineries representing 17 countries at a record 58 events. The hub of the festival is the International Festival Tasting room (March 29, 30 and 31) at the Vancouver Convention & Exhibition Centre, where 717 wines are poured. If you attend only one event at the fest, make it this one.
There are eight events exclusively for those in the wine and restaurant trade, including two Trade Tastings. The wine pro will find 875 wines for sampling here – 158 wines that are unlisted and not yet available in this market plus, of course, all 717 wines that also are served at the public tastings.
Most trade events and public wine seminars take place at the convention centre. Winery dinners, luncheons and other events take place at top restaurants and hotels throughout the city. The festival’s crown jewel is the Bacchanalia Gala Dinner and Auction, March 28, featuring exceptional wines, dining experiences, travel packages and other treasures going to the highest bidder.
